Forests provide sustenance, employment and survival for a large populace in India by fulfilling needs of fuel, fodder, energy, housing, timber, raw material for artisans and industries. Minor forests products, including fruits, flowers, seeds, grasses, dyeing and tanning agents, natural gums, resins etc. provide livelihood and contribute to the economy. However, during the last two decades, India has witnessed widespread depletion of forest cover affecting livelihoods of a large section of the population.
Given the larger role played by forests in the lives of people and the planet, we are contributing to afforestation by planting trees and educating communities about the protective role of forests in water and soil conservation and improving ground water table.
With the objective of creating income sources for local communities, we have been involved in bamboo, mango, chickoo, papaya and banana plantation in rural areas of Maharashtra.
