DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Of the 79 lakh children with disabilities as many as 75% don’t attend schools, and most of them face ignorance, superstition and social stigma related to their condition. VAGF is working towards creating awareness and acceptance by providing these children an opportunity to overcome their disabilities through education, skills training and therapeutic care.

Programmes for education and mentoring of children with special needs are underway at Latur in Maharashtra, where the Foundation has partnered with Samvedana Cerebral Palsy Vikasan Kendra, a local NGO, and contributed to construct a 15,000 square feet state-of-the-art facility for treatment, care and education of children with special needs. The focus of these programmes is education, skills training and mentoring as well as counselling for parents to ensure employment and social acceptance.
