Access to water for drinking & agriculture & groundwater recharge.

At VAGF, we are working with local organisations, government bodies and communities in Palghar district, Maharashtra to educate and involve the local population, and implement water conservation practices. The approach is scientific and uses Geo-tagging, listing and satellite maps. It is also inclusive, thanks to the involvement of voluntary labour and Gram Sabhas.

Spring Cardons

Spring Cordons

That involve cordoning off temporary springs created during monsoons to create watershed structures to ensure assured supply of water. In the cordoning process, a concrete wall of appropriate dimensions is built at a location identified by an expert after actual site study. It stores water and creates pressure on the spring, which results in reducing the flow rate and enhancing life of the spring.

Bunds

Comprise temporary bunds, farm plaster bunds, and sub-surface bunds to control and manage the flow of water and reduce wastage. One of the most often used precipitation harvesting methods in agriculture, the main purpose of bunds is to slow down and filter runoff water from rainfall and hence reduce soil degradation.

afforestation

Open dug wells

Are traditional wells created by simply digging the earth to reach the underground water table thereby reducing dependence on rains and rivers.
