Skill development for financial independence (in marginalized & vulnerable communities).

Our initiatives are aimed at strengthening agriculture by providing training and means to subsistence farmers to reduce dependence on monsoons, increase crop cycles for farmers on the plains, build greenhouses in hilly terrains, cultivate bamboo plantations on barren land, and build of greenhouses to save crops from adverse weather conditions while improving agri-productivity.

Over 4200 women farmers in the remote districts of Rudraprayag and Chamoli in Uttarakhand have joined hands and are working together to share their labour as well as produce in a self-sustainable way.

These women farmers have started realising the potential of earning through their ignored fields, and now are piloting an innovative model of farming called Community Farming to reduce labour per unit area, and pool resources in the form of agri-implements like drip irrigation systems, poly houses, etc. With the new technologies and techniques, the income of these farmers can increase through increase in farm yields and quality of produce.

VAGF has partnered with Sewa International to support an initiative that will use modern farming techniques to practice 100% organic farming. Techniques and equipment such as Poly Houses Drip Irrigation, Water Tank, Farm Fencing, Farm Tool-Kit, and 2 Units of Soil Test Fertiliser Recommendation Meter (STFR) Kits are being introduced to the farmers to improve efficiency and overcome resource scarcity that is common in Himalayan regions.

The initiative will result in up to 70% increment in their incomes in the first year, and can go up by up to 180% from the second year onward.
